About us
Who we are and what we do
IBA is a world leader in particle accelerator technology. We design, produce, and market innovative solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other serious illnesses, and for industrial applications such as medical devices sterlization.

Our story
From innovator to world leader
Founded in 1989, IBA is a spin-off of the Cyclotron Research Center of the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium. At the time, Yves Jongen, a cyclotron expert and Head of the Cyclotron Research Center, wanted to translate the results of his basic research work into commercial use. This led him to dream of a company dedicated to producing cyclotrons for medical applications.
He considered creating the company in Berkeley, California, a city he knew well from the time he spent there during part of his doctoral research and recognized for its cyclotron expertise. Ultimately, as his expertise and opportunities found their roots in Belgium, he decided to settle in his alma matter to give back to his home country.
The IBA project began with a group of 15 friends, united by passion and with the ambition of producing one cyclotron per year.
Today, thousands of hospitals, around the world, use particle accelerators and dosimetry equipment designed, produced, maintained and upgraded by IBA. We are approximately 2,100 people worldwide, all committed to our mission to protect, enhance and save lives.
Since 2021, IBA is a certified B Corporation (B Corp) meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance.
Our mission
Innovation serving patients
At IBA, our mission is to protect, enhance, and save lives. Guided by this purpose, we push the boundaries of science and technology to develop innovative solutions that advance nuclear medicine and improve patient care.
IBA RadioPharma Solutions provides premium, high-quality radiopharmaceutical solutions, including PET, SPECT and therapy cyclotrons, targets, and radiochemistry synthesis modules. We support nuclear medicine departments in designing, building, and operating PET centers to produce radiopharmaceuticals used for the detection and treatment of cancer and other critical diseases.
