Ga68Gallium 68

Gallium-68 is a widely used radioisotope in positron emission tomography (PET) and it has a half-life of 68 minutes. This isotope can be used to label different small molecules and peptides for diverse applications. The most popular applications are for prostate cancer imaging (68Ga-PSMA) and for neuroendocrine tumours (68Ga-peptides such as DOTA-TATE, DOTA-TOC and DOTA-NOC).

To produce Gallium 68,
we recommend this production route:

    Cyclone:

    Cyclone® KIUBE

    Download the brochure

To produce 68Ga on a cyclotron, the positively charged ions must reach the target at 13 MeV. With its unique Custom Energy feature, the Cyclone® KIUBE has different exit energy enabling you to reach the highest amount of 68Ga production at high purity.

For smaller productions, the Cyclone® KIUBE can also be equipped with a degrador foil to reach the target at 13 MeV.

    Target:

    Nirta® Liquid target

The irradiation of enriched zinc solution takes place in the Nirta®  68Ga Conical liquid target. The production of 68Ga using a liquid target is a simple & cost- effective GMP solution similar to the 18F process.

    Chemistry:

    Synthera® Extension, Synrhera® +

The solution recovered from the target is purified on a Synthera® Extension with a two-step purification process (solid phase extraction) leading to [68Ga ]GaCl3. The labelling can then be performed using a cold kit or the  Synthera®+ .

The Synthera®+ system employs an IFP™ disposable cassette system, where the labelling of the peptides (e.g DOTA-NOC, DOTA-TATE, DOTA-TOC, and PSMA-11) takes place.

    68Ge from generator

The 68Ge produced by Cyclone® 30  is used for the manufacturing of  the  generator 68Ge/68Ga. The 68Ge is a  long half-life  isotope (270,95 days), the generator can be shipped around the world.

The 68Ga from the generator is eluted with the help of the Synthera® Extension. The labelling can then be performed using a cold kit or the  Synthera®+ . The Synthera® system employs an IFP™ disposable cassette system, where the labelling of the peptides (e.g DOTA-NOC, DOTA-TATE, DOTA-TOC, and PSMA-11) takes place.
