Every year, IBA offers a scientific award for the best paper or abstract published in a scientific journal, proceedings of a conference using IBA equipment including cyclotron, targetry and/or chemistry.
Vasko Kramer, PhD in Radiochemistry and head of Research & Development at Positronpharma in Chile won the IBA award 2018 for best scientific paper on IBA chemistry equipment: “Routine Production of [18F]PSMA-1007 and First Clinical Experience in Staging of Prostate Cancer Patients”

Abstract: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is highly overexpressed in prostate cancer (PCa) and an ideal target for staging of primary and recurrent PCa. Recently, [18F]PSMA-1007 has been introduced, providing several advantages for routine clinical application such as centralized, large-scale production, higher spatial resolution, higher internalization, tumor-to-background ratios and low renal clearance. Our objective was to evaluate the influence of starting activities on radiochemical yields (RCY), purity (RCP) and stability and to confirm the specificity and clinical potential of the tracer.
